Chernobyl youths set to arrive

Eastern Daily Press – Saturday 12 July

Youngsters affected by the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear power station disaster are all set for a break in Norfolk.

Fourteen children from Mogilev, a city in Belarus close to Chernobyl, arrive tomorrow for a month’s stay with local families.

While here they will also have essential health and medical checks.

The trip has been made possible by the Diss Friends of Chernobyl Children, who have been supported by Norfolk-based Insight Financial Associates. The company has committed to offering a quarter of any remuneration it receives through financial advice consultations referred by the friends.

The youngsters’ visit is part of a five-year programme which is proved to extend the lives of children affected by radiation from the explosion in Ukraine.

Chris Davy, of the Diss Friends of Chernobyl Children, said: “The financial support from Insight will help the Charity tremendously.”

For every month a child spends in the UK it is estimated that their life expectancy extends by two years.

Fun for Chernobyl children

Diss Mercury – Thursday, August 2, 2007

It’s smiles all round for the 14 children from Chernobyl who are holidaying in South Norfolk for one month thanks to The Diss Friends of Chernobyl Children’s Charity and Insight Financial Associates.

A whole programme of fun activities has been experienced by the children as they thrive on Norfolk hospitality, good food and fresh, clean air.

Last week, the children were invited to a party hosted by Insight Financial Associates. Each child was presented with a back-pack filled with toys and goodies followed by a visit to a McDonalds restaurant.

Daniel Appleton of Insight Financial Associates said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank McDonalds at Norwich Airport for pledging their support by generously providing the children with complimentary Happy Meals and ice-creams. The children had a wonderful time.”

Diss Friends of Chernobyl Children are a Charity based locally at Diss that exists to offer the children of Chernobyl the ultimate gift of extending their lives simply by visiting Norfolk for one month each year for give years. To view pictures of the children having fun at McDonalds click here.
