Golfers drive forward with big donation to local good causes

Norfolk based financial services company Insight hosted its third charity golf day at The Marriott Sprowston Manor Hotel and Country Club and raised a total of £18,700 throughout the day.

A total of 22 teams helped raise money for the Bryan Gunn Appeal and Big C, which is Insight’s charity of choice for 2008.

The Bryan Gunn Leukaemia Appeal was launched in memory of Mr Gunn’s two-year-old daughter Francesca, who died of leukaemia. The Charity now provides help and assistance to children and families suffering with the disease and provides training and resources to hospitals and nursing staff and researches into the causes of, and cures for leukaemia.

“I’m absolutely delighted with the amount of money raised for the two charities,” Mr Gunn said. “I have worked with Insight over the past few years and their commitment to charity and encouraging their staff to support charity is first class. Thanks to Insight, The Bryan Gunn Appeal has now raised more than £900,000 since it began in 1993.”

The event also involved a charity auction, compered by Mr Gunn, followed by an awards ceremony. The star of the event was local businessman Simon Chapman, who after a bit of encouragement shaved off his full head of hair to raise another £500 for the two charities.

The Insight Charity Golf Cup was awarded to Wells McFarlane, who shot an unbelievable 103. “The support shown by Insight is an inspiration to the corporate sector,” said Daniel Williams, chief executive of the Big C. “By working as a team the support you have given has been incredible. Big C, and those who will benefit from our support and services offer our most sincere thanks.”

Jason Howard, managing director at Insight thanked those who took part and supported the event.
