The gift of life has been given to a group of children affected by the Chernobyl disaster. The Diss Friends of Chernobyl’s Children (DFOCC), together with Insight Financial Associates, have had the opportunity to help to make it possible for 14 children from the Chernobyl area to revisit Norfolk on holiday for a month this summer.

It is estimated that for every month a child spends away from Chernobyl it increases their life expectancy by up to two years – so for every child who is selected to take part in the five year programme their life can be extended by up to 10 years.

The children stay with local families to enjoy one month of fun and car, alongside essential medical and dental checks.

This forms part of a five-year programme proven to extend the lives of children, whose parents were affected by radiation from the nuclear explosion at the Chernobyl plant in 1986.

They arrived from Chernobyl on July 19 and for some this will be their last year, as they will have completed the five year programme.

Courtesy of Norwich Airport McDonald’s, the children enjoyed their annual Happy Meal and ice cream from the restaurant. Chris Davy from DFOCC said: “We really do appreciate the continued support given by Insight IFA”

“The children love to come to Norwich and enjoyed gifts from the Insight staff and of course the McDonald’s meal.”

DFOCC was founded in 2000 to provide placements for children over a five-year programme from Mogilev – a city close to Chernobyl.
Insight Financial Associates article from http://www.insightifa.com

Company tees up another donation to cancer appeal

A popular Norwich charity is on par to reach its million pound fundraising total after a golf day moved it more than £2,500 closer to its target.

Bryan Gunn’s Appeal, led by the larger than life sportsman of the same name, is just £30,000 shy of reaching seven figures for the first time.

Now the appeal has been given a boost by Norwich-based financial advisors Insight, and readers and businesses in the city were today urged to get behind the push to reach £1m.

The company raised a total of £18,700 on its third charity golf day at the Marriott Sprowston Manor Hotel, Which will be split between several charities, including Bryan Gunn’s Appeal and the Big C cancer charity.

So far Insight has raised £16,679 for the appeal, including £2,509 through the latest day.

Antony Howard, director of Insight, which is based at Norwich International Business Park, said they were planning another golf day for 2010 and the appeal would be beneficiary once again.

He said “it’s important to us to give back to the community and the charities that we believe in. We have known Bryan for a number of years and had a working partnership with him. His appeal is a very heartfelt charity; everyone in Norfolk knows about it and it has touched their hearts. it’s also a very important charity for children with leukaemia.”

The appeal was launched in 1993 following the death of two-year-old Francesca Gunn, daughter of the Norwich City goalkeeping legend.

Mr Gunn said: “We’ve had continued support now over a number of years from Insight holding its golf days. The clients of Insight are very generous indeed and often the directors themselves will end up buying the auction prizes too. I think it’s fantastic that they continue to support not only our appeal, but also the Big C cancer charity as well.”

Mr Gunn added: ”Hopefully the money will keep coming in because the main thing is that we keep sponsoring projects. When we get money we spend it wisely and it goes to suitable projects, and something that helps people involved in, or who are suffering from, leukaemia or cancer. I think the million pound mark is a target but at the same tim ewe need the money to refund some of the projects.”

Editorial from Evening News Saturday, January 16, 2010
Insight Financial Associates article from http://www.insightifa.com

On 9 September Insight hosted it’s fourth charity golf event which took place at Sprowston Manor Golf and Country Club in aid of three great charities: The Bryan Gunn Appeal, Big C and The Foundation for Study of Infant Deaths. As always we had beautiful blue skies and we were delighted this year to welcome back our regular golfers, which included former canary football legends Bryan Gunn and Mike Milligan.

This year we also welcomed a special guest – Dean Ashton, a former canary player and England star prior to being signed up by West Ham before he sustained an injury. We had 18 teams in total competing for the Insight cup and each team played and focussed on what really mattered to raise as much money as possible for charity. We had a number of local businesses support our event by entering a team, which included: Aquaterra Energy, Millsopps, Hollinger Print, Natwest and NM Finance.

The evening event included a prize giving ceremony (see pictures below), together with a three course dinner and raffle and auction which enabled us to raise over £8,500 on the day for Big C, Bryan Gunn Appeal and FSID. Insight would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported our event and who gave so generously towards the raffle and auction – we could not have done it without the generosity of all those who attended our event.

The best team was won by Aquaterra Energy who shot a 99

Runner up team was won by Hollinger Print who shot a 96

Best player was awarded to Doug Lawrie from Aquaterra who shot a 44

Runner up player was awarded to Dean Ashton who shot a 43

The longest drive on the 7th and 11th holes was won by Matt Green

Nearest the pin was awarded to our very own Craig McClurg

The worst score was Steven Mason with 18 and the prize was a golf lesson

Insight Financial Associates article from http://www.insightifa.com

A charity golf day in Sprowston raised thousands for two Norfolk based charities. The fifth charity golf day organised by Insight Financial Associates was held at the Marriott Sprowston Manor Hotel and Country Club. The aim of the charitable event is to “make a difference”.

The annual event benefits local charities, the Bryan Gunn Appeal, Norfolk and Waveney cancer charity the Big C, and the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths. The Bryan Gunn Appeal recently reached its £1m milestone, with Insight having raised £20,000 towards this total.

Jason Howard, managing director for Insight, said “Once again we were overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone who attended our event.”

“I would also like to say a big thank you to all those who donated items for our auction and raffle, which is the reason we were able to raise an amazing amount of £8,500.”

Luckily the weather help up and a total of 18 teams teed off on Thursday. At the end of the day, the cup was won by Aquaterra, who scored an impressive grand total of 99. The former Norwich and England player, Dean Ashton, came runner-up with Doug Lawrie winning the best player award.
Insight's Charity Golf Day 2011

A big 'thank you' to all who attended and supported our 5th Annual Charity Golf Event which took place on the 8th September. The event was a huge success, with 23 teams competing for the Insight cup. The standard of golf played that day was amazing. More importantly though, lots of money was raised for our three great local charities, that are truly making a difference:

The Norfolk Hospice helps patients, carers and families living with cancer or other life-limiting illnesses, by providing timely and professional care and much needed support.

Nelsons Journey which is a charity set up to help children come to terms with the loss of a significant person in their life.

Big C, Norfolk and Waveney’s own charity providing support and care for those suffering from cancer.

Insight are delighted to report that the total raised from all our activities: the hole sponsorship, auction, silent auction and raffle amounted to over £7,272, thanks to everyone's support and generosity.

Previous winners Millsopps, won back the Insight Cup from Aquaterra Energy, despite a fine effort from Team Insight. Best player was awarded to Steve Denton who shot a 45. Second place was hotly contended, but went to Peter Blackmur who shot a 43. Former Canary legend and England star Dean Ashton was resigned to third place this year despite shooting an impressive 41. Longest drive was won by Graeme Brown and nearest the pin was awarded to Craig Scott.

Insight Financial Associates article from http://www.insightifa.com
