Radiation contamination present in the crop growing soil of Chernobyl takes one month to leave the body of children but thanks to DFOCC children spend a month each year for five years enjoying the fresh clean air of Norfolk, returning home healthy. The charity is funding 14 children by flying them to the UK on 22 July to help provide good food and plenty of fun and laughter alongside necessary medical checks.

Clear blue skies, fabulous sunshine and dubious designer trousers bought to blind the opposition all added to the mood of the 2007 Insight Charity Auction Golf Challenge held at the Marriott Sprowston Manor Country Club on September 12 held on behalf of The Bryan Gunn Appeal.

All 16 teams battled it out to win the coveted trophy awarded to Millsopps, who played brilliantly; battling their way to the number one position by beating off the stiff competition of some excellent play.

The brilliant day featured as a significant contribution to Insight Financial Services ongoing support and commitment to Bryan Gunn as the Insight Groups nominated charity of the year.

The evenings dinner and award ceremony was the perfect setting for our fast paced and lively charity auction where bidders outpaced each other for a helicopter ride over the stunning Norfolk coastlands through to wine, bouquets and golf memorabilia raising a grand total of £7,746 to help Bryan’s unceasing tireless work in supporting both extremely sick children and ongoing vital research at the UEA.

This morning, a family, somewhere in the UK, has woken up to find their baby dead.

Every year in the UK, the lives of more than 500 families are shattered by the sudden and unexpected death of a baby. Reasons for the majority of these deaths are never found.

Cot death is the leading cause of deaths in babies over one month old, claiming more lives than meningitis, leukaemia and other forms of cancer combined.

Why Insight Choose FSID as their charity of choice for 2009

In 2000 two teenagers were tragically found dead in the river after a night out in the city club-land area. Shortly after, a third young person was found dead in the toilets of a city nightclub due to alcohol related problems.

These tragic events lead to the launch of the SOS bus project, which is the first point of contact for those whose well-being is threatened.

Insight are one of the local companies who have helped make it possible to launch the new SoS bus to help make a positive difference to our city.

It is estimated that for every month a child spends away from Chernobyl it increases their life expectancy by up to two years – so for every child who is selected to take part in the five year programme their life can be extended by up to 10 years.

The children stay with local families to enjoy one month of fun and car, alongside essential medical and dental checks.

This forms part of a five-year programme proven to extend the lives of children, whose parents were affected by radiation from the nuclear explosion at the Chernobyl plant in 1986.

They arrived from Chernobyl on July 19 and for some this will be their last year, as they will have completed the five year programme.

DFOCC was founded in 2000 to provide placements for children over a five-year programme from Mogilev – a city close to Chernobyl.

In addition to the auction, there was also a raffle, which raised £995 in support of Insight’s directors, Jason Howard and Craig McClurg, who participated in the Great North Run on September 20th in aid of the FSID, which is Insight’s charity of choice for 2009. Mr Howard said: “We had another great event and this is only made possible with the support of all the local companies who attended this event. I would also like to thank the companies and individuals who gave so generously by donating items for our auction.” The event concluded with an award ceremony followed by an auction, compered by Bryan Gunn.

The Royal Norwich player and runaway winner of this year’s professional order of merit made up a three-shot deficit to catch Norfolk Open champion Ian Ellis (Costessey Park) and share the honours. The mini-series is played over three pro-ams in the Norfolk PGA schedule: at Royal Norwich, Western Park and finally at Eaton.

Going in to the last round Ellis held a two-shot lead over the Barnham Broom professionals, Alan Hemsley and Matthew Gardner, while Lythgoe was a shot further behind. Hemsley and Gardner both scored three-over 73 while the prime mover on the final day was Lythgoe, with a three-under par 67.

Ellis, meanwhile, returned a level pa 70 – and the series was tied, with both players completing the 54 holes in three-over par. Ellis scored 71,76,70 while Lythgoe returned 75,75,67. Tony Varney’s fine final round of 66 moved the Norfolk player up into third place while Hemsley, Gardner and Eaton’s Mark Allen all shared fourth place.

The prizes were presented by Sharon Hollinger of Insight Financial Associates who announced that the firm will again be sponsoring the Norfolk PGA in 2010, for the sixth consecutive year. Editorial from Monday 16th November EDP.

Bryan Gunn’s Appeal, led by the larger than life sportsman of the same name, is just £30,000 shy of reaching seven figures for the first time.

Now the appeal has been given a boost by Norwich-based financial advisors Insight, and readers and businesses in the city were today urged to get behind the push to reach £1m.

The company raised a total of £18,700 on its third charity golf day at the Marriott Sprowston Manor Hotel, Which will be split between several charities, including Bryan Gunn’s Appeal and the Big C cancer charity.

So far Insight has raised £16,679 for the appeal, including £2,509 through the latest day.

Antony Howard, director of Insight, which is based at Norwich International Business Park, said they were planning another golf day for 2010 and the appeal would be beneficiary once again.

He said “it’s important to us to give back to the community and the charities that we believe in. We have known Bryan for a number of years and had a working partnership with him. His appeal is a very heartfelt charity; everyone in Norfolk knows about it and it has touched their hearts. it’s also a very important charity for children with leukaemia.”

The appeal was launched in 1993 following the death of two-year-old Francesca Gunn, daughter of the Norwich City goalkeeping legend.

Mr Gunn said: “We’ve had continued support now over a number of years from Insight holding its golf days. The clients of Insight are very generous indeed and often the directors themselves will end up buying the auction prizes too. I think it’s  fantastic that they continue to support not only our appeal, but also the Big C cancer charity as well.”

Mr Gunn added: ”Hopefully the money will keep coming in because the main thing is that we keep sponsoring projects. When we get money we spend it wisely and it goes to suitable projects, and something that helps people involved in, or who are suffering from, leukaemia or cancer. I think the million pound mark is a target but at the same tim ewe need the money to refund some of the projects.”

Insight Financial Associates, based at Norwich Airport Industrial Estate, has also spread its wings into corporate advice by launching a new division – Insight Corporate Solutions, to be run by a team of four.

The new acquisition, of Colchester based Coniston Wealth Management, takes the number of staff at the group to 67 and boosted turnover to in excess of £4m, said the firm.

Simon Lister; a director who leads the corporate team at the firm, said both moves were a natural progression for the business, which now has offices in Northampton, Hatfield and Colchester as well as its head office at Norwich airport and a sub office at Wymondham.

He added that the firm was also looking at other sites. “Over the last couple of years we have become more and more involved in dealing with companies and therefore it was a natural progression to set up a specialist corporate division,” he said.

“We have picked up a lot of business because of our personal approach” The new division will focus on advising local businesses on ways that they can improve their bottom line at no additional expense to them through sound financial planning and changes in legislation, the firm said.

Coniston Wealth Management was set up in 2001 and is run by father and daughter team out of offices in Myland in Colchester.

“It was an area where we wanted a position,” said Mr Lister. “Whenever we deal with clients we are trying to preserve the money they have got. We met with Coniston and just clicked. “We are looking at one or two other sites,” he added.

The firm has clients as far as the West Country and Yorkshire. Insight was set up in 2004 by Jason Howard, the managing director, and has grown considerably over that time. It moved to Norwich airport about three years ago and now has two offices there. It now has 25 qualified independent financial advisors and a number of divisions including Insight Mortgage Solutions, Foresight Estate Planning and Will Writing and Property Investor Partnership. Mr Lister specialises in pensions and investment planning.
