Client Support

First up it's Catherine Smith.

Cat's role is Director Client Support and she is also a Team Leader within the Client Support Team.

How long have you worked at Insight Financial Associates?
22 years!

What does your typical week look like?
As Client Support for one of our directors, Antony Howard, I spend a lot of time organising and planning. Antony & I usually meet weekly to discuss what is required for upcoming client meetings, then to identify post meeting actions. During the week I book meetings, liaise with clients, manage Antony's diary and prepare reports. As a team leader I also host team meetings and am the “go-to” for questions within the team.

What is the best part about your job?
The people! I've worked here a long time so the client support team is like a big family, it has been great to see so many career progressions. I also love building long-term relationships with clients and knowing that we are supporting their financial security. What qualifications do you need in client support? All training is provided as part of the role, however it is desirable to have some experience in a similar role. What advice would you give to someone considering a career in client support? You would need to be able to work well within deadlines, be organised, and willing

Cat Smith
Financial Adviser

We asked Stuart Green what it is like to be an Independent Financial Adviser.

How long have you worked at Insight Financial Associates?
I started at Insight in 2015 as an intern while at University then started full time in 2019. I was the first trainee financial adviser at Insight so I worked in a client support role while undertaking my financial adviser qualifications. I was able to complete the course in 15 months as it was during lockdown so I had plenty of study time!

What does your typical week look like as a financial adviser?
Most weeks are a split of being on the road visiting clients and in the office completing paperwork and preparing for client reviews.

What is the best part of your job?
Having the chance to talk to clients, build long-term relationships, and help them achieve their financial goals.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career as a financial adviser?
Do it! It is a rewarding job that if more people knew about it, there would probably be many more financial advisers.
Finally, any career aspirations? To be a director one day!

Stuart Green
Corporate Support

Next we meet Sarah Ritchie who works in Corporate Support.

How long have you worked at Insight Financial Associates?
I joined Insight in June 2019, so nearly 7 years.

What is the best bit about your job?
I would say is being able to help corporate clients - things like quotes, claims, death and income protection, speaking to clients and getting to know them.

What does a typical week look like?
My week varies greatly, what I do one week won't necessarily be the same the following week! I deal with all the corporate group protection renewals and, every two years, rate reviews where I go to the open market for comparative quotes. Plus for new clients - generating quotes for pensions, protection, private medical insurance, dealing with death claims, income protection claims, produce governance reports, valuations for members of group pensions (usually requested by another financial adviser or client support) as well as sending details to insurers and notifying them of any leavers, I'm sure there are other bits!

What training did you have?
In terms of qualifications for companies, I only have the training that I received when I joined - plus I worked 12 years prior to joining Insight with another financial services company, dealing with individuals.

What would you say to someone considering a career in corporate financial advice?
My advice would be to communicate with your clients, get to know them and what plans they have and work with them, as opposed to working for them. I can honestly say I really love what I do with our corporate clients!

Sarah Richie
HR

Next up in our careers spotlight we meet Amy Dunkinson, our People Manager.

How long have you worked for Insight Financial Associates?
1 year and 4 months.

What qualifications do you need to work as a people manager?
Level 5 or Level 7 CIPD and relevant experience in a similar role.

What is the best bit about your job?
I enjoy the variety - no two days are the same. I find it rewarding to help people and businesses succeed, and to see growth as a result of my work.

What does a typical week look like?
Every week is different. HR touches every stage of the employee lifecycle - from attracting talent and providing a great employee experience to training, development, employee relations, engagement, wellbeing and social initiatives, and so much more!

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in HR/People Management?
Take every opportunity to ask questions, shadow experienced HR professionals, and learn on the job.

While qualifications are important?
Gaining practical experience across different HR areas and industries helps build the knowledge, resilience, and adaptability needed to succeed in any organisation.

Amy Dunkinson
Reception

Finally we chatted with Belinda Heal who works as a receptionist at our head office in Norwich.

How long have you worked at Insight Financial Associates?
14 years

What does your typical week look like?
I am part-time and work 3 days - a large amount of my time is taking company phone calls, I am the first point of contact for Insight so many clients will know my voice! As part of the reception team I work with Andrea and we meet and greet clients visiting our office - I make a great cup of tea! I also book some advisers' diaries, complete general office administration, and keep the office and interview rooms tidy.

What is the best part about your job?
Meeting clients and speaking with them.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about a career as a receptionist?
You need good communication skills, be empathetic, and be able to listen to clients and understand their needs. One of the key attributes as a receptionist is having a polite, positive, friendly manner, and a big smile!
